Laser Links

The Laser-Byte range offers cost effective, reliable and secure laser based wireless transmission for local area networks (LAN) at full 100 Mbps Fast Ethernet wire speed (FDX mode) and at 1Gbps.

The transmission carries data using a concentrated laser beam and a unique modulation technique is employed to ensure error free data transfer over distances of up to 5 Km. Laser-Byte is an extremely competitively priced wireless transmission system, delivering a performance about ten times higher than a 2.4 GHz radio system alternative. As of 2005, 1Gbps versions are now available rated for 200m, 500m, 1Km and 2.5Km.

Furthermore, the E1 series is designed to deliver reliable and secure wireless connections up to 4 Km. This series provides wire speed full duplex 2Mbps point-to-point connectivity between two locations. Laser-Byte E1 systems use industry standard G.703 interfaces built into the laser head to ensure easy integration of the products into the existing PDH environment.

Typical Applications

Laser Link Diagram
  • Replace lower speed leased lines or radio links
  • Interconnection LAN's in campus or industrial environment
  • PABX to PABX connection
  • High bandwidth connection to the Internet
  • VoIP applications
  • Temporary installations
  • Disaster recovery

Advantages of Laser-Byte Systems

  • Provides a quick return on investment over fibre or leased lines
  • Voice and Data compatibility and interfaces directly to existing network
  • Provides high level of security – secure transmission
  • An asset to the company – you move, it moves with you
  • Low cost of ownership
  • No lease line or licensing
  • Fully tested and CE compliant

Bounce Installations

Where a direct line of sight is not possible, there may be instances where a link can be “bounced” using an intermediate building. In such instances two systems are connected together at the bounce building in order to provide the overall connectivity.

Worley Parsons Installation

As part of a major office block re-location Worley Parsons, the internationally recognised Energy and Chemical group, required a wireless solution in order to enable business continuity across their sites.

In looking for an effective solution Worley Parsons employed the services of AzteQ Solutions who installed 3 LaserBit links at their site on the Great West Road, Brentford. As part of the re-location, one telecoms and two data transmission links were required between their existing offices and a new 5 storey building located approximately 100m away. These links are servicing their employees for their voice and data needs. Due to flexibility and ease of installation requirements, it was decided that a wireless connectivity solution would suit their needs best.

Subsequently 3 additional Gigabit links have been installed, including one link rated at just under 1km.

Motorola’s Orthogon Wireless Bridge

Motorola’s Orthogon solutions achieve high-quality, reliable Non-Line-of-Sight (NLoS) and Long-Range Line-of-Sight connectivity where other wireless solutions cannot.

The Orthogon wireless 5.8GHz Ethernet bridge is the first non-line-of–sight (NLoS) wireless solution to deliver carrier-grade service. It consistently achieves high-quality, reliable NLoS and long range Line-of-Sight (LoS) connectivity in situations where no other product can and it does so at sustained data rates up to 300 Mbps.

The Orthogon solutions succeed where more conventional products disappoint, achieving far more reliable connections much more often at higher data rates.

  • Last-mile and heavy-duty backhaul traffic
  • Migrating from an analog to a digital network
  • Linking separate loops within individual buildings
  • Communicating between buildings
  • Linking networks in a campus setting
  • Transmitting across long distances, over water or around obstacles

Free Site Survey

AzteQ would be pleased to conduct a free site survey using GPS measuring devices, to evaluate the suitability of the application and confirm distances/installation location.

Installation & Support Services

AzteQ utilises fully trained installation engineers (including those that are IPAF trained for operating on mobile elevated work platforms) and provides coverage across the whole of the UK.

Furthermore, we can offer on-going site support services in order to maintain continuity of links and prolong the product life. The support package normally takes the following form, but can be tailored to suit specific customer needs:

Yearly Support

  • AzteQ Solutions will attend faults and undertake repairs on the Laser-Byte system within 8 working hours or next day of notification during normal working hours (09.00 – 17.00) Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays.
  • AzteQ Solutions would provide telephone advice on the Laser-Byte system during normal working hours for any technical query on the system.
